Chemical Engineering & techniques
The traditional preponderant major embodies “Hubei Key Laboratory of Novel Reactors and Green Chemical Technology”, “Hubei Technology Center of Chemical Industry”, “The Researching Base of Refined Chemical Engineering”, “The Researching Base of phosphorus Chemistry”, etc. With the qualification of awarding the first-level subject of Master degree, he subject includes five second-level provincial key majors as follows:? chemical engineering, chemical technology, bioengineering, applied chemistry, industrial catalyzing engineering. In 2006, the subject was nominated for the first-level subject of Doctor degree. The major has formed a strong and consummate faculty which has 9 professors and 9 associated professors and 7 Doctors. Among the faculty, 3 teachers have enjoyed the State Department fund and 1 is rewarded as the specialist with special contributions. The major has witnessed many findings, awards and academic papers, 28 of them were recorded by SCI, EI and ISTP. It has three research directions: the chemical reaction and reactor techniques, separating process and techniques and chemical process simulation and optimization.
In1998，the subject was listed as the key subject by the former Ministry of Chemical Industry and was given the right to confer the Master degree in the same year. In 2004, the subject was awarded as “the subject of outstanding achievement and innovation” by the Department of Education. In 2006, the subject was added to the list of the fourth patch of the second-level subject of Doctor degree. Now, the faculty embodies 10 professors and 8 associated ones. The primary research concerns the theoretical and technological problems of the analysis of chemical techniques and design. The main task is to solve the technological and economic problems in the developing process of the new craftwork, products and techniques, especially environment protective ones in the field. The subject has been armed with the top-class experimental and researching facilities and has made numerous achievements in the respect of processing simulation and optimization, new products synthesis, design and innovation of devices for separating techniques, petrochemical engineering and environment protective chemical techniques. The subject boasts countless awards for science and technology innovation and creates the profits up to dozens of millions.
The major got the right to confer the Master degree in 2003. It has 7 professors and 7 associated professors. It mainly studies theoretical and technological problems in the field of life sciences. The researching direction includes synthetic pharmaceutical techniques, pharmaceutical techniques and process research, computer-aided pharmaceutical design, extraction， separation and application of the natural medical ingredients, new medical liquid research and application, biochemical reactor and kinetics, bacteria nurturing technology, etc. Recently, dozens of researching projects have received national and provincial funds as significant projects. Many study achievements have been awarded and recognized and many research papers have been published by SCI, EI. The subject boasts its strong and prominent professor-nuclear faculty, its advanced devices. Undoubtedly, it can foster talents with high quality and comprehensive ability.?

The main research directions are bionic chemistry, the development of functional polymer material and refined chemical productions, etc. the theory of molecule differentiation, the application of functional polymer material engineering in biomedicine, etc. it’s essential task is to solve the theoretical and technological problems in the field. In recent years, the major has received five kinds of funds from the national nature science fund. Moreover, it has received many types of funds from the provincial fund for nature science and the Provincial Department of Education. The number of papers published in SCI and EI is soaring yearly. Some applicable findings have been adopted by some big enterprises and created remarkable economic value. The major has lots sets of giant instruments which have laid the solid foundation for research work and education of postgraduates.
Industrial Chemistry of Catalysis
The major received the right to grant Master degree in 2005. It has 8 professors and 10 associated professors. The science and engineering of catalysis is one of the most active scientific fields internationally. According to the statistics the turnover related to the major approximately takes up 25% of GNP. Catalyzer is one of technological products that updates and regenerates fastest and products largest economic output. In recent years, the development of material physics, computer virtual techniques, green chemistry and nanoscience vitalizes the development of catalysis science and engineering and makes it the backbone in the techniques of solving problems in the field of resource, environment, life and material. It has advanced instruments and strong, experienced elites. It won one national invention award, 3 provincial and municipal awards, more than ten outcomes and invention patents. More than 160 papers have been published in some national and domestic publications.
